The Jungle Book

STUDIO WETA DIGITAL

My Role  Character aNIMATOR

I travelled to New Zealand to work on this amazing film with the talented people at Weta Digital. Being a part of the reimagining of a Disney icon, as well as collaborating with the people who are the leaders at creating digital apes and monkeys was an incredible opportunity. Weta worked on the King Louie sequence of the film. My role was to animate King Louie as well as his army of various monkeys with completely keyframed performances. One highlight for me was being part of a small team who helped form and build the “I wanna be like you” song section of the film. I helped previs most of the shots, exploring acting choices based off Christopher Walkens dance footage and animated shot cameras incorporating Mowgli plates.

This film was widely well received and recognized for its achievements in VFX. Winning various awards such as:
Academy Award for Best Visual Effects
BAFTA Award for Best Special Visual Effects
Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Animated Performance in a Photoreal Feature

Below is a showreel showing some of the shots I got to animate all the way to final including a lot of small shots with lots of monkeys. In the end I animated 100+ individual monkeys, but I’m not sure I want to know the final number.

*As per the standard Weta pipeline, all Louie facial animation was done by another artist.
